With Much questions on domaining as an art and business, I am going to try and disect domain business here and give you much that can carry you to trade on domain.
What Is A Domain? Domain ordinarily in real life is your area of control. America is George Bush’s Domain or area of jurisdiction.
A Domain name on the Internet is your unique ip and rea of control online. Anyone running Internet business needs to own his/her own domain and that makes him a netizen. A Netizen is a citizen of the Internet. A netizen owns a domain, web site and personalised email address.
So How’s Domaining A Business?
Domain registration is on first-first-come-first-served-basis. Once you secure a domain, then no one can use it. For example, if you register a domain such as menogdomain.com today, and Menog Computers as a company wants to use that name to host her site, and you don’t need it, then they can request to buy it from you. This is called Virtual real estate.
The dotcom boom have been a nice one. This has resulted in a lot of property companies going into online property business which is domaining.
The dotcom boom saw domainers rushing to the Internet to register domain and reselling it for a big payday.
How Then Can You Sell Your Domain?
First, you must note here that not all domain sells. There are qualities a domain must have before you can sell it. Let us examine such qualities:
1. Mindshare: Mindshare means if you meantion a domain name, it must implant in your mind. Domain such as ilovegod.com will forever remain in your mind any time you see it once in a bill board or hand bill and will never forget it.
2. Shortness: A domain must be short.
3. Accronym: Accronym sells. This is because it fits into any company, organisation or ordinary name. Accronym is a short term of an organisation. eg. MTN represents Mobile telecoms Network as well as any other organisation it represents. And so if you register mtn.com, be rest assured that any one can pick it from you easily.
4. Cybersquarting: This is a term used when you register a domain name that has a trademark of another company. I registered a domain name that has paypal as a part of the name years ago and was using it to make money daily, untill ebay, owners of paypal wrote to me. No one will buy a domain that has a trace of cyberquatting.
Once You have gotten the above, What are the steps to domain selling:
Step 1. Register Your Domain: Rush to http://www.menogcomputers.com and register your domain, after registration, I will activate it.
Note: When registering, you must change your name server to where you are selling your domain name. for example, if you are selling at sedo.com, your name server will be ns1.sedoparking.com and ns2.sedoparking.com
Step 2. Visit Domain Brokerage Companies, sign up for free and add your domains and start selling.
Following a Domain Parking Companies where you can sell your domains:
1. Sedo: Sedo is the best domain brokerage company. They are good. To park with sedo, change your name server, register with them for free and add your desired prices.
With Sedo, your buyer will have to pay 10% of the cost of the domain you are selling to sedo as commission. You must use a broker to sell your domain, because you might transfer a domain and your buyer will not pay you if you dont use a broker.
2. Afternic: Afternic is a domain auction site. With Afternic, you just sign up for free, add your domain names and add your minimum bid price and wait for bidders. You can change your price once the first bidder comes and be rest assured you will sell it.
Note: Be careful of emails asking that they want to buy your domain but they will need you to appraise it with afternic. This is a legitimate domain business scam and I have had some of my proteges or students falling for this irrespective of my warnings. What they do is to send you their affiliate link and they make a percentage from what you are paying for appraisal and leave youb afterwards.
In order to sell domain name, you need to own a doma account or paypal account.
more later. if you have a better idea post it here
